Welcoming Wyatt

We welcomed Wyatt Dee Brewer into our lives Sat, July 7, 2012 at 11:01 AM.  He weighed 8lbs 1oz and was 20 in long.

Backing up a bit.....
When I started my weekly doctor visits one month before he was born I was already 1.5cm dilated & 75% effaced.  The doctor guessed I prob wouldn't make it to his due date and he could possibly come one maybe two weeks early.  Needless to say the next 3 weeks I was at a complete stand still and had not progressed even the slightest.  My doctor told me there really wasn't any need to come in for an appt the last week b/c we were set up to induce that Sat and unless I had any contractions or something changed the plan was to just see her on Sat to induce.

Last week of being pregnant....
My last week of my pregnancy was nothing out of the ordinary.  It was the week of July 4th.  I worked a normal week except I had taken Friday off to make sure all last minute things were done in order to prepare for Wyatt.  I had not had any contractions or felt any different than any other day of my pregnancy. So I assumed we would just be inducing as scheduled on Sat and Wyatt would not be making an early debut.  Friday rolls around and everything changes.....

So it begins....
I woke up Friday morning around 4:30am to go to the restroom for about the 4th time, this was normal at this point.  I think I peed more than I would sleep.  Anyway,  some changes happened when I went to the restroom, just like with Loralei except my labor did not immediately follow this time.  Many people can lose their plug towards the end of their pregnancy and go weeks before going into labor or sometimes it begins labor.  I was a bit nervous all day b/c I was home by myself with Loralei most of the day.  The plan was for me to spend some one on one time with just me and her on that last day, take her to my Aunt that afternoon to keep her while we were in the hospital and we wouldn't have to get her up at the crack of dawn Sat before heading to the hospital.  About 2:00 the hospital called and told me to not come in at 6:30 but to wait on their phone call instead.  They were so full they had to wait on some patients to be discharged before they would have somewhere to put me and it would probably be around lunch time.  I was fine with this.  I completely understood and and was glad they called instead of getting there early and waiting like sitting ducks.  My Aunt went ahead and took Loralei that afternoon so I could rest up.  Chuck and I had talked about going to dinner and having a date since it was just us Friday evening but after Chuck got home I began feeling "crampy" and having small irregular contractions around 4:30pm.  So we opted to get Ruby Tuesday take out and watched a movie at home.  As the movie progressed my contractions became stronger and more regular.  I began timing the contractions at 8:50pm and for the next hour they were every 10 min apart.  I called the on call doctor around 9:50 to see if I needed to go ahead and come in since they were getting closer and regular pattern plus we live about 35 minutes away from the hospital.  He told me I was welcome to come on and they could check me but he basically suggested waiting until they were closer together.  So i decided I was going to try and wait it out a bit.  However, by 10:15 my contractions jumped to 5 minutes apart.  I told Chuck let's go......

Go Time.....
I called the hospital to let them know we were on our way b/c I knew from the earlier phone call in the day they were limited on space.  We arrived there around 11:30pm.  They first put me in a very small room just so they could hook me up to monitor me until they could clear out a larger room.  Around 12:30 they put me in a triage room where I would stay until I delivered and someone discharged on Sat.  Now remember, we were set up to induce on Sat anyway. Wyatt, just like his sister, had other plans.  Basically, you give me an induce date and my babies WILL be born on it but in THEIR time.  My doctor was not scheduled to come in until 7am so the on call decided he was not going to break my water or begin labor but instead keep allowing things to progress naturally and  let my doctor deliver Wyatt.
At 2:30 am I had reached 4 cm and got an epidural.  I had still never slept at all Friday night and anxiously waited for Saturday....
My doctor finally came in at 7am and broke my water and a little after that they gave me some pitocin to get things moving along.  By 10am I had reached 8cm and they were preparing for me to start pushing.  Dr Myers came in and I pushed for 20 min and Wyatt was HERE!

Welcome Wyatt.....
Wyatt looked so puffy and Dr Myers and the nurses were guessing he was around a 9lb baby and they weighed him and his was only 8 (THANK GOODNESS).  I was so glad Dr Myers was able to deliver Wyatt.  Loralei came so early in the morning that the on call delivered her.  So I was glad to have at least one of my babies delivered by my doctor because I absolutely love her!  I also have to say that in both my experiences I have been blessed with amazing nurses!   Laurie was assigned to me when I check in at the hospital but her shift ended Sat am and was not able to meet Wyatt. However, she was such good company and so sweet. Then there was Patsy.  The labor & delivery unit was so swamped yet she made us feel like we were her only patient and made sure we were assigned to a wonderful nurse. Enter Haley...she was my assigned nurse and she was able to stay with us all weekend.  I can't say enough good things about Haley.  It's so nice when you feel so comfortable around your nurse that it's like having one of your close friends taking care of you.  So, to Patsy, Laurie & Haley, thank you for being such a blessing and so wonderful.  We're so grateful to have shared such a precious time in our lives in such good care.

What a blessing.... 3 John 1:4
Wyatt is so perfect, healthy & just beautiful.  I am well aware of how the conception, pregnancy & birth of a healthy baby is nothing short of a miracle.  For whatever reason God has given us this blessing twice now.  Something that made Wyatt's birth a little more special was a surprise visit from our Pastor, Bro Jack  Clary of Evergreen Baptist Church.  We were in the middle of searching for a home church when Loralei was born and have since felt so welcomed and loved by this church family.  Joyce McFerrin notified Pastor Clary and he caught us at the hospital just before we discharged and he prayed with us.  Chuck and I both teared up.  Words can't describe how special this was to us.  One of my favorite Bible verses is 3 John 1:4 - I have NO greater JOY than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.  Chuck and I are not perfect parents and by no means perfect Christians.  However, I pray that we always turn to God to guide us in raising our children and that they know & seek Him.
